Valerie Cheung Koo is a Los Angeles native with a professional background in public relations and marketing. She currently teaches conversational English, business writing, SAT/ACT prep, interview skills and IB/IGCSE coursework to locals and expats in Hong Kong. Valerie has thoroughly researched and personally navigated the complex Hong Kong international school system for her own children. She also speaks Cantonese, and is currently learning Mandarin. Valerie holds a B.A. in sociology from the University of California, Los Angeles.
Liesbeth Briers (Liz) is an experienced teacher and art therapist, with her BA and MA in Art History from Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium, and a post graduate in Arts and & Health Project Management from the University of Central Lancashire (United Kingdom). Currently she volunteers as a Project Consultant at a center for adults with learning disabilities in Hong Kong. In addition she is a freelance NET teacher of all ages for different schools throughout Hong Kong, setting up lesson plans as well as delivering them. She is fluent in English and Dutch, with good working knowledge of French and German.
Yun Sun is an Independent Educational Consultant for Hong Kong. Yun is an active board member of the Wellesley College Club of Hong Kong, enjoys volunteering at Hong Kong International School, and tutors mandarin as a second language. Yun worked for the management consulting firms Booz & Co and Proudfoot as a human resources specialist. Previously she was a management consultant at Booz Allen Hamilton in New York and a business manager at Bank of America in Charlotte, NC. Yun grew up in Beijing and attended Peking University, received her BS in biochemistry and economics from Wellesley College, and her MBA from MIT Sloan School of Management. Yun and her family have lived in Hong Kong for over 8 years. She is fluent in Mandarin.
Peggy Lee is an Independent Educational Consultant for Hong Kong. Currently a playgroup teacher, she has experience in customer service and logistics management for both US and Japanese companies. Peggy has lived in Hong Kong and Canada, obtaining her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Toronto. With her two children studying at an international school in Hong Kong, Peggy is well acquainted with Hong Kong’s complex school systems. She is also on the Executive Committee of the Parent-Teacher Association of her children’s school. She is fluent in Cantonese, Mandarin, and has a working knowledge of Japanese.
Adrienne Harris is a Shanghai educational consultant for School Choice International. She is an educator as well as a business owner. Her 15 year career includes leadership roles in education and marketing. Adrienne’s teaching experience includes schools in the US and Asia – public, private and international. Adrienne is currently a substitute teacher and is actively involved in her children’s international school in Shanghai. She holds an Ed.S from Middle Tennessee State University, a BA in Marketing from Johnson C. Smith University and her M.Ed from Converse College. Adrienne has lived in Shanghai with her husband and children since 2005.
Denise Vander Vorst is an independent educational consultant for the School Choice Group in Shanghai. Denise first started with SCI in Singapore and then continued for two years in Shanghai after relocating there. Now back in Singapore, Denise has helped numerous families navigate the vast international school system in both cities. In addition to SCI, Denise worked in alumni relations and consumer goods marketing in the US and Europe. She holds an MBA in strategic brand management and a BS in Business Administration. Denise volunteers at her son’s school and for Caring for Cambodia, which delivers high-quality education for children in Siem Reap. Denise has lived in the US, UK, Belgium, Hong Kong, Singapore and Shanghai.
Augusta Klaarenbeek is an Independent Educational Consultant for Shanghai. Originally from the Netherlands, Augusta relocated with her family from Brazil to Shanghai in 2008. With a solid Consulting background in Human Resources for over 20 years, she transitioned to the volunteer position of Executive Director of Shanghai Chosen Families, a supporting, educating and informing network by and for parents of children with learning difficulties. In addition to her various volunteer roles, Augusta is a substitute teacher at the international school. She also assumed a free lance position as Consultant for Global Connection, which is an independent international expat partner support, HR consultancy and research organisation. Their goal is to contribute to the well-being and mobility of expat partners and consequently to the success of the posting. Augusta obtained her Masters of Laws (social economic, European and business management) at The University of Groningen in the Netherlands in 1985.
Rajika Anand is an independent educational consultant in India. She has over 15 years of experience as an educator both as a teacher and an administrator in Indian and International schools. Having lived in Kolkata, Chennai, New Delhi – NCR and Mumbai, she has a deep understanding of the Indian schooling system. She graduated from Calcutta University with a B.A. (English Honours) and then went on to obtain a B.Ed. degree. Having moved frequently within India and overseas, she understands that finding the right school for the children, can play an important part in the settling-down process. She speaks English, Hindi, Bengali and a smattering of Thai.
Millie Mitra taught Geography and Social Studies at a leading girls’ school in Mumbai. She also helped design the curriculum for an NGO program that involves the education of street children in Mumbai. In addition, she provided the content for a CD-ROM that schools used to prepare students in Geography for the Indian Certificate and Secondary Examination. She has also lived in Sri Lanka where she taught for two years at the international school. Millie graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics followed by a Bachelor’s in Education from Bombay University.
Rita Sethy is an Independent Educational Consultant for Delhi and Mumbai, India. She is a trained teacher and an educator with over thirty years of experience. She has been a primary teacher in Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore. Currently, she is a consultant for a pre-school in Mumbai. She is an honors graduate from Jesus and Mary College in New Delhi, and her nursery and primary teacher training in the Frobels method was affiliated with the NCERT institute. Her volunteer activities include having worked with visually impaired children and adults at various schools and organizations, and empowering underprivileged girls with education through the Seva Sadan Society.
Garima Agarwal is an Independent Educational Consultant for New Delhi, India. She holds a Bachelors in Economics from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, and an MBA from INSEAD in France. Her professional background includes experience in financial services and hospitality. Garima works closely with the undergraduate admissions office at UPenn and as Chair of their North India Alumni Interview Committee where she interacts regularly with school administrators and counselors. She has studied and worked in Asia, the U.S. and Europe which has given her an opportunity to understand different education systems. She speaks fluent Hindi and reads French at a basic level.
Cristina de Leon Lopa is an independent consultant for the Philippines. â€œTanaâ€ has 15 years of professional experience in education; immersed in the world of international education as a teacher, and then later as Head of Admissions and Development for two IB World Schools. Tana is currently involved in educational planning and project development for individual and institutional clients. She holds a BA in Psychology from the Ateneo de Manila University where she also taught while earning credits towards an MA in Communication. She started her teaching career in the Smithsonian Institution, Washington D.C but has lived in Manila for most of her life.
Joan Rodgers Doi is an Independent Educational Consultant for School Choice International. She is a long-term resident of Tokyo fluent in Japanese, conversant in Korean and familiar with the international and local school systems in the greater Tokyo metropolitan area, having navigated through both with her own two children. Joan is a licensed Montessori educator birth to six years and has taught at an international school in Tokyo. She has developed curriculum for English language instruction for students of all ages, taught and edited the English language and consulted on wide-ranging English language-related hard copy and web-based projects in both Tokyo and Seoul for the past 25 years. Joan has corporate experience recruiting MBAs from the top schools in the USA, and has been a volunteer college alumni admissions interviewer for over 25 years. She is a graduate of the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University and has studied at both Waseda University in Tokyo and Yonsei University in Seoul. Joan enjoys assisting families find the appropriate school environment that ultimately plays a key role in adjusting to life in Japan.
Lynne Toh is an Educational Consultant for Singapore. Lynne was born in Singapore and began her career in education when she started creating illustrations for an interactive education program. Her path crossed over to international education when she moved to Portland, Oregon, where she began as an International Student Specialist (Admission & Recruitment) at Maryhurst University. Before returning to Singapore in 2007, Lynne Toh was Director of International Recruitment for Clark College, Washington, USA. Lynne has more than 11 years of experience in counseling students on academic planning. She also worked with US universities and colleges in building programs and developing strategies for international student recruitment. Lynne is a graduate of the San Francisco Art Institute and is fluent in Mandarin.

Phil Meehan is the Asia Pacific Special Educational Consultant. He has supported expat families in transition for fifteen years and understands the challenges they face both preparing for a new adventure and saying goodbye to the familiar. He has a Master’s of Counseling, having worked as a school counselor in Singapore (United World College of South East Asia), and now in private practice. He also holds a Bachelor of Education having taught in Canada, New Zealand and Singapore (Singapore American School). Phil has extensive experience with students of mixed abilities and understands the importance of helping you find the best-fit school for your family. He has two third culture kids attending international schools and speaks both English and French.

Anne Stedman taught in schools in Australia for many years. She also has worked in university administration. Anne lived in London for several years and in New York, and was a consultant for School Choice International in both locations. During her relocations and repatriation, Anne experienced the process of choosing schools for her own daughter. Anne is a trained early childhood educator.
